DJ Krush to Hold 20th Anniversary Party in London

His celebrations in Tokyo amounted to a mammoth seven-hour set in the heart of the city, now the party for DJ Krush, Japan’s undisputed Godfather of the electronic beats scene, will hit London on Saturday 28 January 2012. His 20th anniversary show will take place at the 2,350 capacity HMV Forum in Kentish Town and will consists of a three hour set from the pioneer of Japanese hip hop himself, not before support from Coldcut‘s very own electronic legend Jonathan More, as well as sets from Anchorsong and Kidkanevil.

As a teenager, Krush was part of the yakuza but boldly stepped away from the criminal underworld when his buddy’s finger turned up on his desk. Soon after, he became exposed to the world of hip hop via Charlie Ahearn’s Wild Style, largely regarded as hip hop’s first motion picture. From there, Krush set out inspired but approached nothing but hurdles, only exacerbated by very few people in Japan knowing what a mixer was, and even less shops stocking them.

Tickets for DJ Krush’s 20th anniversary show are on sale now priced at £17.50 plus fees, available from Ticketweb, Ninja Tune or via Pay Pal.

About Tom Smith
Some say he's fuelled on nothing but energy drinks, and that when he visits Japan, he spends the whole time engaging the ground in an all too familiar way. But what we do know is that his words on the country's entertainment and culture find their way into NEO Magazine on a monthly basis, while everything else finds its way here. Be it quirky news item from the Land of the Rising Sun, or a story so gruesome it'd be rude not to pass it on, you'll find it here along with his general posts about life, work and most importantly play. And yes, he has had articles printed in the likes of MCV, GamesMaster, 360 Gamer and more, thanks for noticing.
